Week 9 Power Rankings!
Last week's rank in ()
1. Denver Broncos (6-1) (1)
This team is clicking on all cylinders, who do you guard on defense? Big game this Sunday @NE, but Manning has had 10 days to prepare.
2. Arizona Cardinals (6-1) (6)
This team just keeps on winning. Impressive win vs Philly, and this week they have another tough one against Dallas. Don’t doubt this team.
3. Philadelphia Eagles (5-2) (4)
A tough loss against ARI, but they remain tied atop the NFC East. McCoy averaged less the 4YPC, but the Foles-Maclin combo is something special.
4. New England Patriots (6-2) (8)
Well that escaladed quickly. Remember when this team was 1-2? Now they have a 100% Gronk, Brady being Brady, and a deep threat in LaFell. If they beat DEN, they’re #1 next week.
5. Dallas Cowboys (6-2) (2)
Tough loss at home vs WSH, but the bigger worry is Romo. Murray can’t do everything, and if they put even more on his plate they’re asking for an injury. They have a tough schedule, Romo needs to heal quickly.
6. Indianapolis Colts (5-3) (3)
I could have seen the Colts losing at PIT, but not like that. The good part is they have an easy conference and schedule, the bad part is they now have 2 more losses than DEN and one more than NE.
7. Seattle Seahawks (4-3) (10)
Well they got a win. It wasn’t very impressive, but it was nice to see their DEF back. They aren’t the Seahawks of last year yet, but they have OAK to help them try and find themselves this week.
8. Green Bay Packers (5-3) (5)
That offense looked great on SNF until Rodgers ran for the 1st down and hurt his hammy. Then it was all down hill after that. @NO isn’t a bad loss, but the Rodgers injury is. Great week to have a BYE.
9. Detroit Lions (6-2) (11)
Well they squeaked out another game where they were dead in the water. Their offense is less than impressive, but that DEF is real. Getting Calvin back will help wonders, and they are now 1 game up in the NFC North.
10. Baltimore Ravens (5-3) (9)
Tough loss against CIN in which they had the lead late in the 4th. They are not on top AFC North and it is certainly crowded with every team above .500. No time to put together a losing streak.
11. San Diego Chargers (5-3) (7)
That’s 2 losses in a row, and a tough game @MIA this weekend. They once were considered threats in the division to DEN, now with a loss, they will be on the outside of the playoffs.
12. San Francisco 49ers (4-3) (12)
With the off week, they fell an additional .5 back of ARI and SEA in the division with those two teams winning. It looks like they have an easy game @STL to maybe make up some ground, but isn’t that what Seattle said 2 weeks ago?
13. Cincinnati Bengals (4-2-1) (13)
I really didn’t see them winning vs BAL this past Sunday, but they pulled off a huge win. They will get AJ Green back this week, and I have a feeling this offense will be a lot more like what they opened the season with. They have the Jags and the Browns at home in 4 days, they should easily extend their lead in the division.
14. Kansas City Chiefs (4-3) (14)
I continue to be impressed with this team, and I really think they have a decent chance of making the playoffs. Get to 6-3 vs NYJ and @BUF then we are really talking!
15. Pittsburgh Steelers (5-3) (17)
What a huge win for Pitt, and now they have another at home vs BAL. If they can win this week, they have 3 games against teams with a combined record of 6-17. The AFC North is very interesting.
16. Buffalo Bills (5-3) (20)
How does this team keep winning!? No rbs, new QB, and a rookie WR. They now have a BYE to get healthy, and then it is make it or break it with KC, @MIA, NYJ, CLE. This team could easily be 8-4.
17. Miami Dolphins (4-3) (16)
If they could have held on against GB in week 6 they would be 5-2, but instead they stand at 4-3 and in the thick of things in the AFC. They must go at least 2-2 in their next 4, but those 4 are against SD, @DET, BUF, and @DEN.
18. New Orleans Saints (3-4) (22)
That could have been a season changing win on SNF for NO against GB. Brees got it together, they had a deep game, and Ingram has been a stud when healthy and given the chance. But things don’t get easier: @CAR, SF, CIN, BAL, @PIT. Will the NFC South Champ win more than 8 games!?
19. Houston Texans (4-4) (23)
Don’t look now, but they are only one game back on IND and have Clowney back. If they can pull the upset at home vs PHI this week, after their bye they have @CLE, CIN, TEN, @JAC. I can’t count them out yet.
20. Carolina Panthers (3-4-1) (15)
Tough loss at home, but no time to dwell with NO coming to town for TNF. Cam needs to step up; they have some winnable games if they can beat either NO.
21. New York Giants (3-4) (19)
And the gauntlet continues for the NYG. IND, @SEA, SF, DAL left on the schedule until their easy part comes. They might need to win 4/5 to stay up with DAL/PHI, but at least 3 is a must.
22. Cleveland Browns (4-3) (21)
This team just doesn’t look like a playoff team. What happened to their run game? Their schedule just is so bad they can hang around.
23. Washington Redskins (3-5) (25)
And they have life, at least for another week. They got @MIN and TB, 5-5 and see what happens after.
24. Chicago Bears (3-5) (18)
This team has just been disappointing all season. They have one last chance to save it, following the BYE @GB.
25. Minnesota Vikings (3-5) (27)
This win was big just to keep fans interested; their next 4 games should be losses. That would have meant an 8 game losing streak. I don’t know if Bridgewater is the answer.
26. Atlanta Falcons (2-6) (24)
This team just can’t buy a win. The good part is they are still just 1.5GB, the bad is they still don’t have a home game until week 12.
27. St. Louis Rams (2-5) (27)
Ugly loss after a nice win against SEA. Their season is over, and if they are not careful, Davis could get hurt with SF, ARI, DEN, SD left on the schedule.
28. Tennessee Titans (2-6) (28)
This team has 3 below average QBs, no running game, and average WRs. That means the future is dim.
29. Jacksonville Jaguars (1-7) (30)
This team competes every week. I love what Gus is doing here, and I could see them being a pain in a wildcard-ish team’s ass later this season.
30. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1-6) (31)
They don’t play a team in the top 10 for 5 straight games, too bad they are in the running for the #1 pick.
31. New York Jets (1-7) (29)
Last week might have been the worst offensive show of the season of any team. At least we get to watch Vick run around again.
32. Oakland Raiders (0-7) (32)
They probably are better than the Jets, but they will be last until they win a game. And there isn’t a reasonably winnable game until @STL in week 13.
WEEK 9 MVP RACE UPDATE:
1. DeMarco Murray – DAL
1,293 total yards, 1,054 rushing, 161YPG, 7 TDs. Even though they lost, he still was amazing. He might even be asked to do more with Romo hurt.
2. Peyton Manning – DEN
68.7 Comp. %, 1,848 yards, 19-3 TD/INT ratio. He is a very close second. Murray better not slow down, or PM will be on track for his 5th MVP.
3. Andrew Luck – IND
64.8 Comp. %, 2,731 yards, 22-9 TD/INT ratio. Tough loss but it won’t hurt his stock in this race. He still had 400 yards and 3 TDs but Brady is close behind.
4. Tom Brady – NE
64.4 Comp.%. 2,059 yards, 18-2 TD/INT ratio. He replaces Rodgers with virtually the same stats. The difference, his team is 6-1 in their last 7.
5. Philip Rivers – SD
68.3 Comp. %, 2,213 yards, 20-5 TD/INT ratio. The loss hurts, but his stats weren’t as bad as Rodgers were.
Others to consider: Aaron Rodgers, JJ Watt
