Here are your Week 9 Hot Starters & Bench Warmers! We had a decently successful fantasy preview in the TNF; really nailed Mark Ingram. I really missed the pick when Cam and Benjamin just didn’t show up. Tomorrow: Kyle's Money Makin' Picks for each NFL game & DK Lineup for the weekend!
Ahmad Bradshaw @NYG: Bradshaw has been a steady fantasy stud this year, with only 1 game in single digits since week 2. Last week he saved his game with a TD, but he wasn’t all that effective in a game where the Colts scored 30+ points. This week however, I think Bradshaw will be very effective and a #1 RB.
The Colts take on the Giants on MNF. The Giants are the 4th worst fantasy run defense in the league allowing 20.6 fantasy points to opposing RBs. Here are some of the RBs they have played and their fantasy points: Murray 18 points, LeSean McCoy 14 points, SJax 12 points, Alfred Morris 14 points. These are their last 4 games, and besides Murray, the other 3 have really been struggling this season.
Bradshaw is an elite RB this week and a solid option the rest of the season. Also, to boost his value, Trent Richardson could still be hampered by his injured hamstring. Prediction: 20 Fantasy Points
Andy Dalton vs JAC: I usually don’t put guys too high vs JAC because their defense isn’t terrible, and I certainly do not usually like Dalton. But this matchup sets up nicely. Jacksonville is the 12th worst fantasy defense against opposing QBs, giving up over 16ppg. That is “okay”, but what really matters is that AJ Green is coming back and Gio Bernard is hampered. It looks as if Gio is VERY questionable. We all know the love affair Andy shares with AJ, so without their next best offensive player Dalton will look early and often to Green. There are only about 3-4 guys who can cover Green respectively, Jacksonville does not have one of those guys. I can see myself regretting this selection but it is tough to put together this list. Prediction: 19 Fantasy Points
Alfred Morris @MIN: Alfred finally had a good game against Dallas this past Sunday, and now has a favorable matchup against MIN. MIN allows 19 fantasy points to opposing RBs this season, and have given up 4 games of over 20 points. Also, RG3 is back, which benefits Morris too. In games which RG3 started this season, he averaged 15 fantasy points. I know that is only 2 games, but the threat of RG3 opens up holes for others to run. This will be a grind it out game, and Morris is the best back in WSH. Prediction: 15 Fantasy Points
Steve Smith @PIT: Rough couple of weeks for Smith, and some owners might be bailing ship. I am giving him this week to prove himself. This is a huge game in the AFC South. If you watched any of the Steelers last week, you can tell that you can throw on them. They gave up 42 fantasy points to WRs vs the Colts, and I believe Smith will be in the Hilton role. Smith is a big game guy and with this game being on SNF and having had a couple bad games back to back, Smith will bounce back in a nice way. Prediction: 16 Fantasy Points
Travis Kelce vs NYJ: I usually do not put TEs on the Hot list, but this is a beautiful matchup. KC loves to control the ball and the time. Against the Jets, you can not just pound the run. Well that is PERFECT for Kelce. Smith loves to dink and donk, and NYJ struggle mightily against TEs. They allow the 4th most points to opposing TEs with close to 11 points per game. But if you look closer the good TEs usually dominate. Here are some other elite TEs vs NYJ: Gronk 6 points, Julius Thomas 17 points, Gates 18 points, Martellus Bennett 17 points. That is almost 15 points a game to good TEs. Prediction: 14 Fantasy Points
Others I like: Ryan Tannehill vs SD, Pierre Garcon @MIN, Denard Robinson @CIN
Ben Roethlisberger vs BAL: If you benched Big Ben last week, I am sorry for the misery you put yourself through seeing him put up 44 points. But before that week he only had 1 game all season over 20 points. Also, BAL has only allowed 15 points per game to opposing QBs this season. They have only given up one 20 point game to a QB this season and that was to Andrew Luck with exactly 20 points. He might be able to pick up garbage points if they are down big, but do you really rely on that!? Prediction: 14 Fantasy Points
Andre Williams vs IND: The way to attack (besides for last week) the Colts, is by the run. But do you really trust Andre? The Colts give up 17ppg to RBs, but Williams hasn’t had more than 5 points in each of his last 2 games. I have a feeling the Colts will get up quickly and the Giants will have to throw the ball, which is very terrible for Williams. He has only caught 4 balls all season. I hope you have another option this week. Prediction: 6 Fantasy Points
Jerrick McKinnon vs WSH: This guy has been somewhat of a pleasant surprise so far this season. However, McKinnon has yet to score a TD this season, and has only 1 game with more than 10 points this season. His value is in the rush yards, and WSH doesn’t allow many. They allow less than 90 total rush yards a game, and are 5th best in fantasy points allowed to opposing RBs with just 11.9ppg. McKinnon has value after the BYE with GB, CHI, and CAR as his next 3 games but McKinnon isn’t much more than a FLEX this week even with 6 teams on a bye. Prediction: 6 Fantasy Points
Brandon LaFell vs DEN: LaFell has 3 double digit games in his last 5, and has averaged over 12ppg in that time. However, he does play a very solid pass defense this week. The Broncos are the 7th best against opposing WRs only allowing 17.9ppg. #1 WRs only have racked up 43 points all season, which is just 5ppg. Because Talib is usually on the #1 WR and with their pass rush so quick, Brady won’t get the time to let the deep ball develop. Prediction: 5 Fantasy Points
Robert Griffin III @MIN: Even though 2 WSH guys are on my hot list, I don’t like RG3 this week. He is coming back quickly from an injury, and he was already reluctant to run in the games he played earlier this year. Also, MIN only allows 13ppg to opposing QBs. That is 2nd best in the league. No QB has accumulated 20 points against MIN, and 3 have been in single digits. I like him to improve Garcon’s value, but his value is no more than a #2 QB. Prediction: 13 Fantasy Points
Others I don’t like: Terrance Williams vs ARI, Mohammed Sanu vs JAC, Ben Tate vs CLE
