Week 8 Power Rankings
Last week's rankings in () next to team
1. Denver Broncos (5-1) (1)
We know this team has a great offense, but the scary part is, we are finding out that they may have the defense to match. Ware and Miller have 15 sacks combined.
2. Dallas Cowboys (6-1) (2)
Another week, another impressive win for the Cowboys. Is there a chance Murray keeps this up all season?
3. Indianapolis Colts (5-2) (7)
This team is HOT right now. They’ve won 5 games is a row and only play 3 games against teams above .500 the rest of the way. They have a strong chance of 12-4, and a believable chance at 13-3.
4. Philadelphia Eagles (5-1) (4)
This team is almost a lock for at least a wildcard, but their goal is home field. Their next 4 road games are: Arizona, Houston, Green Bay and Dallas. Those results will make or break them in the division.
5. Green Bay Packers (5-2) (6)
They just can’t shake Detroit in the division. Their next 3 games are tough, but they only play one team in the top 19 of these rankings from weeks 12-16.
6. Arizona Cardinals (5-1) (10)
I have been hesitant to give this team their credit yet, but with a 1.5 game lead in the NFC West, they certainly deserve it.
7. San Diego Chargers (5-2) (3)
A loss against a 3-3 KC team at home, does not help their case of an easy schedule. This Thursday @DEN is as tough as it gets, but it is a chance for SD to show us they are legit.
8. New England Patriots (5-2) (8)
Despite a game in which they were statistically dominated, the Pats still found a way to win. They are 5-1 in their last 6 games.
9. Baltimore Ravens (5-2) (11)
Their offense is balanced, and their defense is legit. They have a chance to run away with the AFC North and will be a hard out in the playoffs.
10. Seattle Seahawks (3-3) (5)
They are in an unusual territory now losing 2 in a row, and 3 of the last 5. Things ease up with 4 games in a row against teams .500 or below, but they have some serious issues to figure out.
11. Detroit Lions (5-2) (13)
Impressive comeback win vs NO. If they beat ATL, they will have only lost one game with Calvin out.
12. San Francisco 49ers (4-3) (9)
Nearly an impossible game for them to win on MNF, considering the circumstances. During this BYE they need to figure out their running game.
13. Cincinnati Bengals (3-2-1) (12)
They haven’t won since Sept. 21 and are very banged up on both sides of the ball. They play Baltimore, which will be tough to win, but then 4 straight games against teams under .500.
14. Kansas City Chiefs (3-3) (21)
I have been saying for a couple weeks to not give up on this team, and they showed up on Sunday. They win boringly, but a W is a W. Their next three are vs STL, vs NYJ, @BUF, they could easily be 6-3.
15. Carolina Panthers (3-3-1) (14)
Just when I thought they had it together, GB destroys them easily. Their schedule is brutal, but as it’s been said in past weeks, they are lucky they are in a terrible division.
16. Miami Dolphins (3-3) (20)
Big win @CHI and with JAC on the horizon they should be 4-3. They have a chance at the wildcard, and that is all you can ask for at this point.
17. Pittsburgh Steelers (4-3) (22)
An amazing 3 minutes secures another unimpressive W for the Steelers. They have IND at home and @BAL for their next two. If they go 1-1, they are set for an interesting finish in the division because they have a rather easy schedule the rest of the way.
18. Chicago Bears (3-4) (15)
Another ugly loss and now the team is fighting. With @NE and @GB their next two games, this season could be lost if they lose both.
19. New York Giants (3-4) (16)
vs IND, @SEA, vs SF, vs DAL in the next 4… Is it too soon to say their season is over?
20. Buffalo Bills (4-3) (23)
A nice come from behind win by Orton on Sunday, but they are now without their two RBs. They have 5 very winnable games coming up and they will need to win at least 4.
21. Cleveland Browns (3-3) (17)
How do you lose to Jacksonville, let alone by 18?! They have 5 games against teams below .500 in their next 6, but can you trust them? I don’t.
22. New Orleans Saints (2-4) (18)
This team just can’t get it together. Brees is to blame with the error this week. vs GB, @CAR, vs SF, vs CIN, vs BAL, @PIT, vs CAR, @CHI for their next 7. Good luck.
23. Houston Texans (3-4) (19)
That 3 minutes on Monday night could have cost the Texans their season. If they had a QB, this team would be a theat.
24. Atlanta Falcons (2-5) (24)
My sleeper team for the year has now lost 4 in a row, but that only leaves them 1.5 games back in their division. A win in London would be huge, but this offensive line is terrible.
25. St. Louis Rams (2-4) (27)
Very impressive win vs SEA. It is one Davis can build on, but the schedule and division are just too brutal to think they can make a comeback.
26. Washington Redskins (2-5) (28)
COLT MCCOY! At least he throws it to Garcon. This team isn’t going anywhere this season, but it will be nice to see if RG3 is good when he comes back.
27. Minnesota Vikings (2-5) (25)
Bridgewater has posted a QBR of 6 in the past 2 games, COMBINED! McKinnon is solid, but that is about it. 2 winnable games against TB and WSH but then it gets pretty hard.
28. Tennessee Titans (2-5) (26)
This team is bad, and there isn’t much to get excited about. They could very well not win another game until Dec. 14th vs NYJ.
29. New York Jets (1-6) (29)
Speaking of those Jets, they have now lost 6 in a row. The Harvin trade would have been interesting if it happened weeks 2 or 3, but now the season is over. I guess we will see if Geno is any better with another option.
30. Jacksonville Jaguars (1-6) (32)
They are no longer last! The pool was full, the stadium half empty, and they got a win! They only have one game against a team with less than 3 wins left on their schedule, so odds are the don’t top 3 or 4 wins.
31. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1-5) (30)
They probably are better than JAC but I had to give JAC a few bumps up after their win. There isn’t much to say about TB.
32. Oakland Raiders (0-6) (31)
Well, at least they are the front-runners for the #1 pick. If they don’t beat CLE this week, it’ll be a while before they have a reasonable chance.
WEEK 7 MVP RACE UPDATE:
1. DeMarco Murray – DAL
1,072 total yards, 913 rushing, 137 YPG, 7 TDs. As long as he keeps getting 100 rushing yards a game and the Cowboys keep winning, he stays atop the list.
2. Peyton Manning – DEN
68.7 Comp. %, 1,848 yards, 19-3 TD/INT ratio. He broke the record in a very impressive fashion, having as many TDs as incompletions. Just Peyton being Peyton.
3. Andrew Luck – IND
65.9 Comp. %, 2,331 yards, 19-7 TD/INT ratio. He has now won 5 straight games, but is no longer the lone leader at TDs. He is closer to Peyton in the race, but the 4 more INT and 1 more loss is the difference.
4. Aaron Rodgers – GB
66.8 Comp. %, 1,674 yards, 18-1 TD/INT ratio. His team doesn’t throw it as much as IND or DEN to have the yards, but the TD ratio is impressive. He also had as many TDs as incompletions this week.
5. Philip Rivers – SD
67.4 Comp. %, 1,961 yards, 17-3 TD/INT ratio. Harsh drop off, but the others are so impressive and with much harder schedules.
Others to consider: JJ Watt, Russell Wilson
