Week 10 Power Rankings
Last week’s rank in ()
1. New England Patriots (8-2) (1)
Well that was a statement! They just took a death grip on the AFC running through New England. They have to be the favorites for the Super Bowl as of now.
2. Arizona Cardinals (9-1) (3)
Carson who? Alright, that might be a bit over the top but they picked up a huge win vs DET. They just won a game in which Stanton threw 2 INTS, Ellington ran for 42 yards, and they only scored 14 points. This defense is legit.
3. Green Bay Packers (7-3) (6)
Nobody is playing better than Aaron Rodgers, and nobody stands a chance in Lambeau right now. I don’t know how he is so accurate in the bad weather, but if the Cardinals stumble a little bit, the road in the NFC might go through a cold Green Bay.
4. Denver Broncos (7-3) (2)
That was real ugly! That was one of those games you just want to forget you even played if you are DEN. I told you the injuries to the running game would hurt, but now they have injuries everywhere. Don’t look now but they might not even win their division.
5. Dallas Cowboys (7-3) (8)
Take a week off and now you are tied atop the division! Dallas has a loaded schedule down the stretch with: @NYG, PHI, @CHI, @PHI, IND, and @WSH left. Those 2 against PHI will decide the division.
6. Kansas City Chiefs (7-3) (10)
They made me look like a genius, coming through when I guaranteed a win against SEA. They have won 5 straight games and are 6 of 7 with their only loss being @DEN. They have OAK before their big showdown vs DEN, if they win that, they could be the #2 seed in the AFC!
7. Detroit Lions (7-3) (7)
Tough loss @ARI, but definitely not a bad one. They have another tough game @NE, but the rest of their schedule is against teams well below .500 until their week 17 matchup against GB. They have the lead in the division on tiebreaker, but there is very little room for error.
8. Indianapolis Colts (6-4) (5)
They are a clear 3rd best in the AFC. The loss of Bradshaw really hurts, and it seems they have a lot to figure out before the post-season. They are only 1 game up in the division but luckily they have an easy schedule: their final 6 games are against teams that are a combined 23-36.
9. Philadelphia Eagles (7-3) (4)
No one has won at Lambeau so their loss wasn’t bad, but the way they lost was. They got man handled by an average defense, and Sanchez was anything but spectacular. Rodgers picks apart most teams, but PHI has only beat 1 team over .500 all year and that was back in week 2 vs IND.
10. San Francisco 49ers (6-4) (13)
Back to back wins and they are in a prime spot for a playoff run. They and SEA are at 6-4 and it looks like the loser of the NFC North will be vying for one of those 2 wildcard spots too. Odds are one of SF & SEA will miss the playoffs, luckily they play each other twice in the next 4 weeks to figure it out.
11. Baltimore Ravens (6-4) (11)
Baltimore didn’t get any favors on their BYE with CIN and PITT winning on the road. BAL plays @NO on MNF, but this game isn’t as tough as it might have seemed 2 weeks ago. They have a schedule that features a bunch of mid-level teams: NO, SD, MIA, HOU, CLE. We will soon find out if this team is a contender.
12. Pittsburgh Steelers (7-4) (12)
They finally have their BYE and they find themselves just percentage points out of first in the division. They control their own destiny with 2 games left against the division leader, CIN, and games vs NO, @ATL and KC.
13. Miami Dolphins (6-4) (15)
In the AFC there is no room for error, you will need to be 11-5 or 10-6 for a Wildcard spot, MIA has @DEN this week, vs BAL, @NE, still left on their schedule. They MUST win one maybe two. Big week for the Dolphins, they got DEN at the right time.
14. Cincinnati Bengals (6-3-1) (16)
Yes, they are number one in the division, but I just cannot trust them. They still have not beaten a team .500 or better besides BAL twice. Dalton had a good game @NO but can that be sustained? They have 2 must wins @HOU and @TB because their last 4 are tough with Pitt (2), @CLE and vs DEN.
15. Seattle Seahawks (6-4) (9)
It is time to just accept SEA for who they are - a good but nowhere near great team. They have 2 quality wins at home vs DEN and GB but those were back in September. Since their BYE in week 4, they’re just 4-3 and those wins are against teams with 7 or more losses. They have ARI (2), SF (2), PHI and STL. Odds are they need to be 11-5 to win a Wildcard berth, I don’t see them going 5-1 with that schedule.
16. San Diego Chargers (6-4) (17)
Rivers and Gates are really bruised up and this team just doesn’t look impressive. They have been lucky with an easier schedule, but now they face a pretty decent STL, then the gauntlet: @BAL, NE, DEN, @SF, @KC.
17. Cleveland Browns (6-4) (14)
There are those Browns that we all know. They got torn apart by a Texans team without Foster and without starting Fitzpatrick at QB for the first time in his career. It’s a nice story to say they would win the AFC North, but I believe it will become a realization that they are just an average team this weekend with a loss to ATL. Let the Manziel talk begin in 3..2..1
18. Houston Texans (5-5) (20)
So you are saying there’s a chance!? They are one game back with 6 games left. After this weekend against CIN, they have TEN and JAC twice. They will need to win @IND, but hey, all you can ask for is a chance.
19. Buffalo Bills (5-5) (19)
Tough loss for BUF, things might have been different if this game was on Sunday. They aren’t a bad team, but they are just not quite a top 6 AFC team. They still have @DEN, GB, @NE, I see this team going 8-8.
20. St. Louis Rams (4-6) (22)
Man this team would be so good with a solid QB. They have beat SEA, SF, DEN in the last 5 weeks. That’s very impressive for any team, let alone a 4-6 team. They aren’t going anywhere this year, but it is nice for fans to see that despite injuries this DEF is beastly.
21. Chicago Bears (4-6) (25)
They ended their 3 game losing streak with a win vs MIN. Cutler looked better, and the best part, Marshall and Jeffrey were elite. I think this team could kind of round the troops and end up like 9-7, but obviously too little too late.
22. New Orleans Saints (4-6) (18)
The Saints just aren’t a good team, and Brees isn’t an elite QB this year. Now Cooks is hurt, Colston still irrelevant and the DEF is god awful. BUT they still are tied for the lead in the division. They still have BAL and @PIT before things get a little easier.
23. Minnesota Vikings (4-6) (23)
Well, any chance of them making it a season this year is gone. Now they have to deal with the AP stuff again. There isn’t much to say besides they need to get Patterson involved, he is too talented to be wasted like this.
24. Atlanta Falcons (4-6) (24)
Your NFC South division leaders! That’s right my ATL team is leading the division despite a 4-6 record. If they have any chance to make the playoffs, they need to win at home vs CLE this week. I think they’ll do it, and they’ll have a punchers chance the rest of the way.
25. Carolina Panthers (3-7-1) (21)
They are probably out of it in a division that has a leader with a record of 4-6. This is a lost season, and questions loom about if Cam is a franchise guy. At least they nailed it with Kelvin Benjamin.
26. New York Giants (3-7) (26)
This is a bad, BAD team. Eli isn’t a good QB anymore. Is it time to give up on Eli and Coughlin? I believe so.
27. New York Jets (2-8) (28)
It is a bad time in NY when you have 2 NFL teams and they are 26 and 27 respectively on the Power Rankings. I do believe the Jets will finish better than the Giants, but is that a good thing?
28. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2-8) (30)
They picked up their 2nd win of the season, and this offense is coming around. They will probably part ways with VJAX in the offseason, but Mike Evans is their future.
29. Washington Redskins (3-7) (26)
RG3 just needs to shut up. He has either been hurt or played terrible since week 17 of his rookie season. He has no excuses with the weapons he has. This team is lost right now.
30. Tennessee Titans (2-8) (29)
BLITZ! I swear that’s all they did on MNF and it almost worked. The stats don’t really show it but Sankey looked good.
31. Jacksonville Jaguars (1-9) (31)
They have a chance to really mess up the AFC with a game vs IND. Odds are they get blown out, but this is their mini-Super Bowl.
32. Oakland Raiders (0-10) (32)
We get to watch this massacre of a team on TNF, wooo! Is there a player on this offense that you would consider a solid player?
WEEK 10 MVP RACE UPDATE:
1. Aaron Rodgers – GB
66.8 Comp. %, 2,748 yards, 28-3 TD/INT ratio. He is the hottest player in the NFL right now. He has the 2nd most passing TDs, 6th most yards, best TD/INT ratio, and best QB rating.
2. Tom Brady – NE
64. 0 Comp. %, 2,649 yards, 24-5 TD/INT ratio. I lied, I said winner of NE vs IND would be the front runner rest of the year, but I certainly didn’t see NE winning while Brady putting up ugly stats. Accompany that with Rodgers having 300+ and 3TDs, that is why Brady sits at #2. But guess what, GB and NE play in Week 13.
3. Andrew Luck – IND
63.2 Comp. %, 3,388 yards, 28-10 TD/INT ratio. Ugly loss on SNF where the Colts offense did very little. I think ultimately his MVP chances went out the door with that game. It is basically a 2 man race.
4. Peyton Manning – DEN
67.1 Comp. %, 3,301 yards, 30-9 TD/INT ratio. Another guy with an ugly loss, but at least he still had stats. He is gaining on Luck in yards, but also in INTs. He needs to put up godly numbers in the last 6 games to record another MVP.
5. DeMarco Murray – DAL
1,514 total yards, 1,233 rushing, 151 YPG, 7 TDs. He was on a BYE so there is nothing new to say, but this - there isn’t a chance he wins MVP. As I said before, it is a 2 man race right now, with only 2 others having any chance.
Others to consider: JJ Watt, Rob Gronkowski, Ben Roethlisberger
