Hello all, and welcome to college basketball season! My schedule for the season will start like this: On Monday- I will do the top 5-10 games to watch, preview the games and make my predictions for each (I will pick the Vegas line and predict the game, the day of the game). On Tuesday- I will update my top 25 rankings and discuss some teams to watch. On Friday- I will do the top 5 games for the weekend, preview the games and make my predictions ( I will pick the Vegas line and predict the game, the day of the game). I will also provide a "Lock of the Week" or "Weekend". Lastly, for my picks, I will only being doing spreads not O/U.
Now let’s look at the opening weekend! Like I said, Friday I will preview the top 5 games for the weekend (Fri-Sun). It just so happens, my 5 big games for this weekend fall on tonight, opening night! Let’s take a look!
Friday Nov. 14 - Sunday Nov. 16: Games to Watch
(rankings reflect my ranks)
1. Minnesota vs #7 Louisville
Vegas: Louisville -6
Of course my sleeper team has about as tough a game as you can get against Louisville to start the season, but this is a pretty cool matchup considering the coaches are brothers. Louisville should contend for an ACC title, while I feel Minnesota could find their way into the tourney and surprise some people. With that said, this one probably won’t stay too close, but it will be exciting. Two teams that love to run and press at a neutral site, you can’t ask for much more on opening night.
Kyle’s Money Makin’ Pick: Louisville -6
2. Tennessee @ #15 VCU
Vegas: VCU -8
We have another neutral court game here. Tennessee is coming off a 24-13 season, a Sweet 16 birth and a new coach. They have a ton of new factors which will be fun to watch throughout the season. VCU is our pick to win the A-10, and they have a loaded starting 5. Their big player to watch is new the freshman backup PG, Jonathan Williams. Both teams are very athletic, but I think VCU’s crazy pressure defense is way too much for teams this early in the season.
Kyle’s Money Makin’ Pick: VCU -8
3. Georgia @ Georgia Tech
Vegas: Georgia Tech -2
The battle of Georgia happens on the 1st night of the season. Georgia welcomes back their top 5 scorers and new 6’8” recruit Yante Maten. They have an outside chance at the tournament. Georgia Tech on the other hand, is full of transfers and freshman. Odds are this game gets away from GT quickly, but you never know with an instate battle!
Kyle’s Money Makin’ Pick: Georgia +2
**Lock of the WEEKEND**
4. Wofford @ Stanford
Vegas: Stanford -10
My Southern Conference champion takes on PAC-12 contender Stanford. Johnny Dawkins will need a solid season to feel safe even though he made the Sweet 16. Wofford brings back much of their team that won the Southern last year. I hope Wofford pulls off this upset, but it will be tough @ Stanford.
Kyle’s Money Makin’ Pick: Wofford +10
5. Presbyterian @ #3 Duke
Vegas: Duke -34
If you know me at all, you know I am a HUGE Duke fan. Therefore, this is my blog, so I am going to be a little bit biased here. This game shouldn’t be close, but I can’t wait to watch this team! They have a good mix of experienced players with stud freshman. Cheers to Duke winning the National Championship this season!
Kyle’s Money Makin’ Pick: Duke -34
YTD Record: 3-2-0
Lock of the Week/end: 0-1-0
